Pack of three foam gaskets for 85 x 85 or 100x100mm Filters.
Unlike the Firecrest 100mm filter holder, many older design systems such as the Formatt-Hitech 100mm filter holder doesn't offer any specific protection against light leak. A foam gasket can be used to help block this light entering behind the filter and ruining your landscape or long exposure shot. The gasket will make a big difference however it should be noted that it is not a definitive solution.
Gaskets are not required if you are using the new Firecrest 100mm Filter holder.
Gasket Fitting Instructions
Place the gasket on a flat surface with the white backing material facing upwards and the centre square still in place. The centre square should remain in place until the final step to ensure the gasket retains it's shape.
Prepare a shallow bowl of lukewarm (70-70.5ºF), soapy water.
Place the filter into the water and leave to soak for 5 minutes.
Remove the filter and gently rub the gasket material to remove it, unless you are very lucky the glue will remain on the filter.
Once the bulk of the foam has been removed, place the filter back into the water for another five minutes.
Remove the filter and start to remove the glue, on a good day it will peel off in one or two pieces.
Dry the filter and clean.
...use hot water, this can damage the filter and in the case of resin filters, cause them to warp.
...use any solvents or abrasives. These can irreparably damage the surface or coating of the filter.
...use any tools (metal, plastic, wood) to assist in the gasket removal.
